The latest numbers for real estate sales in Pasco County, Florida are in.

In March 2011, 756 homes that were listed in the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) out of the 5,781 homes for sale sold. That is, 13.08% of the homes for sale were sold.

This is an increase compared to last month when 9.89% of the homes that were on the market sold.

From March 2010 to March 2011 there was an increase of approximately 22.7% in home sales throughout Pasco County, Florida.

How to Renew Your Drivers License in New Port Richey, Florida

If you have to renew your drivers’ license in New Port Richey, Florida starting in January 2010, there are new driver license and identification card requirements. Yesterday I went to renew my drivers’ license which expires in May.

There are new document requirements. You MUST bring specific forms of proof for identification, Social Security number, and residential address:

For the IDENTIFICATION requirement:

Bring one of the following: Certified U.S. birth certificate, valid U.S. passport, certificate of naturalization, consular proof of birth abroad, OR an alien registration receipt card (green card, form 1-551)

For married women like me if you bring in a copy of your certified U.S. birth certificate you MUST bring an original or certified copy of all marriage certificates or court orders that show your name change(s). Uncertified photocopies are NOT valid.

OR you can bring in your valid U.S. passport which is what I did

For the SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER requirement:

Bring one of the following: Social security card, W-2 form, paycheck showing your social security number, OR any 1099 form

For the RESIDENTIAL ADDRESS requirement (not post office box:)

Bring two of the following:

Deed, mortgage, payment booklet, or rental agreement

Florida vehicle registration or title

Utility bill or hookup/work order

Statement from person you live with along with two address documents in the person’s name

There is a Tax Collector’s office located at 4720 U.S. Highway 19 in New Port Richey which is north of Trouble Creek Road.

I was there at 2:30 p.m. and it wasn’t crowded. It’s challenging to determine when a “good time” to go but I waited until later in the week. Mondays seem to be busy days for government offices as well as the pseudo-government post offices.

$8,000 tax credit for first-time homebuyers will end soon.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 expanded the first-time homebuyer credit by increasing the credit amount to $8,000 for purchases made in 2009 before December 1, 2009 which means that first-time home buyers have until November 30, 2009 to take advantage of this opportunity.

Who is considered to be a first-time homebuyer?

According to the IRS taxpayers who have not owned another principal residence at any time during the three years prior to the date of purchase are considered first-time home buyers for tax purposes.
